Notes to self.
What’s the missing ingredient?
Where’s it taking me?
What drives this song?/ What makes it tick?
Does it move? How does it move?
Perfect Ears, Imperfect Music
People are so used to perfect music nowadays that anything that doesn’t sound perfect immediately doesn’t make the cut. The bar is way high.
TOMS SUCK
I realized I don’t really like toms in my percussion lines.

Yay.
The more music I make the easier it seems to get. The key word here is seems.
Perhaps this creative riverbed is no longer dry. I feel wet again.

Inspiration/ Mood; Sadness
I’ve noticed my mood faltering a bit lately. I get the urge to write melancholic songs, use heavier progressions, slow beats down. My emotional state really seems to dictate what sounds “right” at the moment.
But I’ve also felt a little blocked recently — by that writer’s block bane-of-existence, as if the steady trickling creek of creativity was suddenly...

I've (Re-)Discovered the 80s
I never realized what I’d been missing until I recently fell (s)tumbl(e)d across 80s era disco thanks to Youtube. This is what fed the foundations of the likes of Daft Punk and fueled the house movement. What a revolutionary time in music when electronic synth sounds had just made their entrance into the music arena. Not to mention the nostalgic amazingness of Tarantino soundtracks which...

I need to learn how to MIX.
So I feel as if the musical juices are flowing and my compositions are nicely under way, but, as evidenced by all the original tracks I’ve uploaded onto this blog, they ‘sound’ terrible. If you notice, my last upload sounds as if the audio is more concentrated toward the deep of the skull, with relatively weak drums/ bass, and there’s a little bit of click-popping you can...

I feel like...
…one of the highest difficulties in creating ‘art’ is to be faithful to one’s own expression, and to put in check the desire for others’ approval - or perhaps to thereby compromise
…that ‘science’ is a mere attempt at the quantization of ‘art’
…that one should never compromise oneself unless it is for a greater good

I like that feeling of looking back at something previously done and thinking, “Wow, that wasn’t as good as I thought it was then.”
Like a sense of improved, matured taste.
"Moon" Remix Competition

seangoespop:
Its that time of year. People laughing, having fun, enjoying the new year. Oh, and there is a new remix contest as well. So time for details. And more laughing and having fun. They usually go hand in hand.
Here is where you can download the vocal stem: http://www.mediafire.com/?wuezymvmtwq

I need equipment. Badly.
I really need to get my hands on some hardware equipment. As well and good as using virtual synths and music softwares works, I am sure having actual hardware equipment would be unbeatable… to actually be able to manipulate keys, toggles, buttons, knobs would make mixing and experimenting sounds so much more user-friendly. I feel like I’m working backwards - starting with the computer...

Whoever Created Music is a Genius
Because making it is really, really, really, really, really, really hard. Or at least good music is.
Who would think 30 seconds of temporally organized sound could and often does take over 3 hours to assemble via computer software??
I still don’t know what the FREAK half these virtual knobs are supposed to do… ‘poles’ or ‘Q’ or ‘S&H’...

I Don't Know Why But I Hate 'Owl City' So Goddamn...
UGH!! Fucking HATE that ‘Fireflies’ song. And all the rest of that crap.
Maybe it’s the cheesiness. Yeah, it’s definitely the cheesiness. And how the cheesiness pulls you into a suffocatingly heavy blanket of cheap, fuzzy feelings - like drowning in your own spewy mix of stomach acids and aerosol Velveeta after way too many episodes of All My Children. Owl City makes me...

This will be a Music Blog
Another music blog. Right on, partner, w00Tz for something that’s been done all over the place before, splooged across the face of the Internet like a premie preteen discovering cyberporn - just for the very first time.
This’ll be different. Well, I can’t claim it’ll be amazingly original and exciting, or better than other blogs out there, but this will be personal. A...

Desiderata
Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you...

I really don’t know what this blog is going to become… right now it’s just a bunch of random thoughts that I needed to note on digital paper… hopefully I’ll be crafting something more toward the exquisite end of the spectrum from here soon.
We’ll see.

It's a Hard-Knock Post-Commie Life
Slava Mogutin: “As a kid I was sexually confused. At school I was in love with a boy and a girl at the same time. But dealing with girls seemed more complicated, so at the age of 11 or 12 I found myself naked and fully armed with my best friend, the son of a local KGB officer. His dad had an impressive collection of confiscated guns and pistols. We used to play with them when we were home...

Amusings
Yesterday evening as I was walking down the street I saw a man give a homeless man some change. Best line: “Oops, sorry there, I almost dropped it in your water cup.” Yeah, these things happen.
Today while walking to lunch, I spotted an empty box of Magnums on the ground outside a university building. Glad someone was having fun.
One of the best feelings is making up after a long and...

R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
I realized I’m really mean to my mom.
Just today she was like, “Oh so did you buy that rolling tobacco from the tobacco store?”
At first I answered, “Yeah, where else would I buy it?” but she didn’t hear it.
“Where?”
“Yes, that’s right - tobacco store,” I corrected myself.
Tsk tsk tsk… talk about disgrasian.
