I need to learn how to MIX.
So I feel as if the musical juices are flowing and my compositions are nicely under way, but, as evidenced by all the original tracks I’ve uploaded onto this blog, they ‘sound’ terrible. If you notice, my last upload sounds as if the audio is more concentrated toward the deep of the skull, with relatively weak drums/ bass, and there’s a little bit of click-popping you can hear during the chorus break (though it does go with the beat… but sadly, it was unintentional). In other words, my mixing skills hardcore suck.
Thusly, I must learn how to mix.
Mixing is super-duper important for making a track sound good, and can dramatically change the effect of a composition. Apparently there exists such a thing as a ‘good’ mix - core principles are as follow:
1. Cleanliness.
2. Clarity.
3. Separation.
4. Level.
5. Balance (both frequency content and stereo field).
6. Genre test.
7. Environment test.
And so, as the Internet is a wonderful and boundless tool for human edification and erudition, I’m learning how to mix with this online tutorial. Gonna head to the library to see if I can find that book. And here’s an instructional video.
